Caregiver Action Network is fighting to improve the quality of life for the more than 90 million Americans who care for loved ones with chronic conditions, disabilities, diseases, or the complications of aging.
The Movement Disorders Policy Coalition works in partnership with Caregiver Action Network to serve and advocate for a wide array of family caregivers. The community ranges from the young couple dealing with a diagnosis of MS to adult children caring for parents with Alzheimer’s disease. CAN’s mission is to create resourceful caregivers, reduce caregiver stress and create respect for family caregivers.
This November, National Family Caregivers Month, the Movement Disorders Policy Coalition is proud to stand alongside Caregiver Action Network and other partners to acknowledge and thank all of the patient and resilient caregivers across the country. This November’s #CaregiverAnd campaign encourages family caregivers to celebrate the identities and passions that enrich their life.
Far too often, a person’s role as a family caregiver overshadows their identity and emphasizes the care they provide for your loved one. #CaregiverAnd shifts that focus by highlighting the other roles, activities and passions that make up a person’s life.
“Being a family caregiver is incredibly important, but it is critical not to lose sight of who you are. Your sense of self makes your life complete. This is an essential component of self-care that can ultimately prevent caregiver burnout and depression,” said John Schall, CEO of Caregiver Action Network.
#CaregiverAnd gives family caregivers an opportunity to share those parts of their life that can sometimes feel neglected while trying to juggle all kinds of different roles and responsibilities. This campaign will also raise awareness around family caregiving by reminding us that those we see every day – our neighbor, the barista at the coffee shop down the street, our child’s little league coach – may be caring for loved ones as well.
