A condition like Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) can be devastating to a woman’s confidence and mental health. TD is a movement disorder characterized by uncontrollable, abnormal, and repetitive movements of the face, torso, and/or other body parts. TD may develop after a few months of taking medication to treat bipolar depression, depression, or schizophrenia and affects over 500,000 people in the United States.
Mature women are particularly at risk, and post-menopausal women with a history of depression are the number one demographic for TD. The uncontrollable movements are disruptive to their lives, having a particularly negative impact on emotional and social well-being.
